The main purpose of the role is to assist in achieving the AgriBusiness Sector strategic goals with regards to risk mitigation, innovative solutioning, providing of Agri knowledge and technical expertise within RBB.

Job Description
The main purpose of the role is to assist in achieving the AgriBusiness Sector strategic goals with regards to risk mitigation, innovative solutioning, providing of Agri knowledge and technical expertise within RBB.

Key Responsibilities:
Agri Book Risk Management
  • Perform detailed analysis of an Agricultural entity’s production levels, climatic conditions, financial and managerial ability, financial performance and borrowing requirements.
  • Provide Relationship Executives and Credit Sanctioners with an Agri Report containing relevant crop, climatic, financial and managerial information to enable them to make a qualified credit decision.
  • Provide guidance and input with respect to poor performing clients/ accounts with the goal of assisting and managing them back to acceptable credit levels.
  • Serve as an early warning mechanism to ABSA in identifying, where possible, disastrous situations before they actually occur.
  • Provide support, guidance and advice during the disaster situations to minimise the impact on ABSA.
  • Together with the Relationship Executive and Credit, review existing Agri client facilities and assist with Rescue Management processes (Credit Rescue Management) where necessary.
  • Provide guidance to the Relationship Executive in identifying accounts that carry a high risk and provide guidance to normalise.
  • Conduct a client needs analysis as frequently as needed
  • Provide regular updates to Management on solutioning and business enablement activities and the financial performance of the AgriBusiness portfolios.
  • Store the AgriBusiness reports and feasibility studies in the Public Folders on the NAS Server.
  • Identify and analyse risk through interaction with role players in the Agricultural Sector.

Agri Industry Excellence Information
  • Research, analyse and keep abreast of all financial related products and solutions on offer to Agricultural clients in the South African, African and global markets
  • Keep abreast of Provincial/ National Government policies, strategies and initiatives in areas of responsibility to ensure sustainability and identify growth opportunities and solutions for the Agri sector
  • Research, Analyse and report to management on the national and regional economic outlook and climatic conditions relating to Agriculture in the area of responsibility. Provide reports based on research done and do presentations.
  • Provide technical, economic and financial information e.g. climate trends, global trade forecasts and trade prices to Relationship Executives, Credit and all other Key Stakeholders
  • Conduct comprehensive competitor analysis in area of responsibility, document findings and present findings in a research report. Ensure that all research reports are stored in the Public Folders on the NAS Server.
  • Assist Relationship Executives with sector specific industry knowledge and expertise in preparation for or during client engagement.
  • Share and document best practices, trends and key experiences with peer group, Management and Agri Centre of Excellence
  • Remain up to date on Provincial and National Government policies on Agriculture including, inter alia; subsidies, marketing and related processes; by attending networking events, forums, seminars and reading public press releases.
  • Keep up to date with and provide Agriculture related information with regards to competitor activity and changes in the Agricultural industry by reading industry magazines, national press articles and industry websites and by attending industry forums and networking functions.
  • Hold annual meetings to update and validate Agri Valuation Guidelines, to be approved by Regional Agri Manager, before distribution to relevant stakeholders. Store Valuation Guidelines in the Public Folders on the NAS Server.
  • Assist Training and Development in compiling Agri training material for training of all staff with Agri clients or involved in Agri finance.
  • Assist Training and Development with the training of all staff involved in Agri finance.
  • Proactively interact with stakeholders e.g. product/ solutions experts, agricultural economists, primary and secondary Agri clients and co-operatives to obtain ideas and information for product development.
  • Assist the Centre of Excellence to complete business cases for submission to product and segment.

Networking and Relationship Building
  • Build and maintain relationships with both internal and external Agriculture Stakeholders including industry bodies, key individuals, farmers, co-operatives, Government and non-Government organisations.
  • Identify and foster reliable sources of Agricultural market and policy information. (e.g: Industry bodies, key individuals, farmers, co-operatives, provincial government, etc.).
  • Represent ABSA at marketing events with other role players in Agriculture, Private Sector, Government and Farming organisations in area of responsibility.
  • Manage and maintain cordial relationships with Coverage and all other Key Stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to share information with external stakeholders with the support of the Centre of Excellence.
  • Promote ABSA’s image through marketing and communication by organising farmers’ forums and farmers’ days and contributing to media publications.
  • Draft and implement a Communication and Marketing Plan for specific area of responsibility directed at primary and secondary agricultural producers, co-operatives and/ or Agri businesses to advise target audience on financial product solutioning, options for specific commodities, climatic conditions and/or Sector risk issues.

Agri Market and Business Development

  • Assist the Relationship Executives in identifying new clients with potential for growth, cross selling or book maintenance, by reviewing current exposure, cash flows, assets and liabilities, commodity prices and internal/ external demand on commodities.
  • Assist the Relationship Executives in ensuring that the majority of the clients’ turnover is channelled through ABSA by validating and checking on leads provided, obtaining regular reports from Relationship Executives and through direct client interaction.
  • Regularly generate a list of potential clients through interaction with external stakeholders and conduct research on potential clients to qualify the leads.
  • Identify opportunities within the agricultural industry value chain for growth opportunities, cross-selling, new innovations or solutioning opportunities.
  • Conduct a gap analysis of current products used by the agricultural clients against the typical agricultural products and advise the Relationship Executive of potential opportunities for cross selling.
  • Take co-responsibility for the growth of the Agri book and portfolio as per regional targets.
  • Identify and explore opportunities in support of ABSA’s BEE strategy for Agriculture.
  • Grow market share within geographical area of responsibility, including Agri BEE.
  • Assist the Relationship Executive in ensuring optimum utilisation of facilities by clients.
  • Assist in the identification of clients for migration (between CIBW, RBB Enterprise, and RBB Commercial Business) and assist in ensuring there is consensus within ABSA with regard to the migration.
  • Based on interaction with and feedback received from clients and key stakeholders, advise product development teams of new product innovations required in the Agri Sector

Minimum Requirements
  • Degree (NQF 7) with Agri Specialization (Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Sciences or Agribusiness Management).
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Agricultural Finance or Financial Services/Banking
  • Specialist Agricultural Sector knowledge and skills
  • Sound knowledge of credit, including an understanding of industry risk assessment, risk mitigation and risk management.
  • Preference will be given to South African Citizens and Permanent residents of South Africa in possession of proof of permanent resident status.
